Information for students interested in PhD studies within ANC

The ANC institute hosts internationally recognized research in Computational Neuroscience and Neuroinformatics and Machine Learning. We welcome applications from motivated students with strong backgrounds in appropriate disciplines. You are encouraged to look through the webpage for your chosen discipline and find one or two potential supervisors to discuss your research interests.

We usually require potential PhD students to first study for an MSc degree. Potential students may be admitted directly to the PhD program if they have carried out prior postgraduate study, or in exceptional circumstances. The School offers its own strong MSc programme. Alternatively, the new 4-year Data Science Ph.D. programme includes some MSc-level courses in the first year.

The School website has information about applying for a place and funding to do graduate research. Some of the deadlines are early in the academic year, especially for funding options that you may find from your country of origin. You are advised to start contacting prospective supervisors as early as you can.

Informal enquiries about studying for a PhD within ANC may be made to the ANC PhD Secretary, anc-phdsec@anc.ed.ac.uk.

We have a list of potential projects given below, though staff are always happy to hear about and discuss your interests and develop PhD projects that are of mutual interest.
