Exploring temporal landscape of post-synaptic proteome diversification and functionalisation

Evolution of the post-synaptic proteome can be traced back to primitive organisms which lack nervous systems and is thought to be responsible for the emergence of finely-tuned neural system function and behaviour in complex organisms, however, most studies have simplified their description of protein evolution. Proteins do not evolve uniformly over time, they undergo periods of active diversification (positive selection pressure) and conservation (negative selection pressure).

In this talk I will present a high level overview of specific biological findings arising from computational modelling predictions of diversification timeline for full human proteome and for smaller groups of proteins selected due to their functional or anatomical relationship (e.g. post-synaptic proteome). Also, I will discuss insights from mapping my predictions to static protein-protein interactions as well as interactions between members of functional pathways.
