Title: A Sequence Simulation Based Approach to Evaluating Metagenomic Sequence Assignment Accuracy

Abstract: Metagenomics is the microbial community characterisation by High Throughput Sequencing. It is widely used in medical, agricultural and ecological settings to better understand the contribution of these complex cellular communities to system function.

We present a method to evaluate the accuracy of metagenomics pipelines, including taxonomic assignment error and the effects of sequencing depth and platform type on taxonomic assignment and abundance estimation. Also we evaluate the discriminatory power of selecting hyper-variable marker gene regions for OTU clustering.

Title: A Game Environment Based on Self-Model Theory

Abstract: Self-model theory proposes the incorporation of a virtual self-model as a mental tool for an agent to generate conscious behaviors. I’m building a pygame environment to implement this theory. In the game, agents are able to, based on its knowledge of the attributes and methods of other objects, simulate itself and its surroundings before taking actions in the actual game. A temporal-abstraction-enabled deep Q-learning network is provided to the agent for learning and reusing skills from its simulation. Given knowledge of other agents and items in the game, the agent is able to perform animal theory of mind tasks such as joint attention and competitive feeding paradigm.
