The aim of the project is to explore how DNA methylation, in conjunction with other epigenetic mechanisms, influences RNA expression. In particular, we will focus on specific regions of the genome, known as CpG islands, which act as promoters. This will require developing novel methods for analysing higher order features of next generation sequencing. In particular, we are focusing on non-parametric tests that bypass some of the common problems of such data. The project will also attempt to integrate information from distinct data sets, an important open problem in the field.
