Modelling the effects of attentional feedback signals on response properties, contextual integration, and learning in the primary visual cortex (PhD)

This project will extend an existing feedforward, rate-based model of the early visual pathway including the primary visual cortex (V1), developed in part by Dr. James Bednar, by adding feedback from extrastriate areas. The feedback mechanisms will be modelled on cholinergic and glutamatergic modulation of V1 as is currently under investigation by Dr. Alexander Thiele. The aim of the project will then be to investigate how this feedback may mediate attention and contextual integration as well as determining specific effects on perceptual learning and development in V1.
