Exploring attractor-based models and functionally feedforward networks in the context of cell assemblies in the hippocampal system (PhD)

The aim of the project is to investigate if functionally feedforward networks provide a useful framework to understand the mechanisms underlying the formations of cell assemblies. Functionally feedforward networks will be compared with attractor-based models to identify the differences between both approaches in implementing cell assemblies. The project will comprise two main stages – the first one will involve modelling and analysis of the networks employing rate-based and integrate-and-fire models. The second stage will be centred around the framework to model hippocampal cell assemblies in the context of phase precession and replay.
